    VT Group is seeking a Network Engineer 1 located in Chantilly, VA.

    Responsibilities

    Overview

    The Network Engineer will work directly with our clients and account managers to gather functional and technical requirements, craft and engineer viable solutions, and present the solution to our clients. The Network Engineer will also coordinate, support and perform the configuration, installation and provisioning, and in-depth troubleshooting and repair on all projects across traditional active networks and Optical LAN networks supporting both DoD and commercial clients.

    • Meeting with clients to identify the functional and technical requirements and constraints
    • Performing site surveys and network assessments on customer sites and develop reports to present results
    • Providing network engineering support in specifying the design, equipment, and technical approach in response to RFPs and/or customer requirements.
    • Working with SMEs for other systems (Access Control, IDS, AV, and Surveillance) and ensure required network requirements are understood, properly accounted for in overall design, and implemented.
    • Creating implementation approaches/plans including major phases, required roles, and tasks.
    • Providing device configurations for network equipment based on architecture and functional requirements, to include but not limited to VLAN, trunks, NTP, RADUIS, SNMP, ACLs, SVIs, Routing OSPF/EIGRP/BGP, QOS, Multicast routing, VoIP, MPLS, etc.)
    • Coordinating and participating in the evaluation, configuration, and administration of GPON network systems.
    • The types of solutions that this professional will configure / install / troubleshoot include the following: routing & switching solutions, Cisco 55xx firewalls, VPNs, and wireless solutions

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor or Associates Degree in Related Field; or related experience in network engineering
    • Min 2 Years’ experience configuring / troubleshooting network and IT environments
    • CCNA or equivalent expertise
    • Active DoD Clearance or willing/able to obtain

    Required Skills / Capabilities

    • Experience with hands-on network implementation and troubleshooting across the access, distribution, and core.
    • Experience with debugging and analytics techniques / tools such as the use of network protocol analyzers, analysis of dump files, tracing, and performance tuning.
    • Experience with configuring and troubleshooting Cisco 55xx Firewalls and Point-to-Point VPNs
    • Willingness and motivation to learn and apply new technologies and tools
    • Team-oriented performer with an outstanding work ethic
    • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
    • Must be able to manage multiple tasks / projects simultaneously.
    • Experience with Microsoft Visio

    Preferred Additional Skills/Capabilities:

    • Experience with network performance monitoring tools, preferably Solarwinds NPM
    • WAN experience including MPLS and coordinating installation and troubleshooting with service providers, i.e. AT&T.
    • Flexibility and willingness to support full-stack (network, compute, storage, cloud, applications)
    • Scripting / Programming experience
    • Experience with network automation tools (Ansible, etc.)
    • Virtualization / VDI implementation experience and/or knowledge base
    • Other IT / Network / Wireless certifications / experience
    • Additional industry certifications (Public Cloud, SD-WAN, WAN optimization, Virtualization)
    • Experience with industry leading Next Generation Firewalls solutions (Cisco, Checkpoint, etc.)
    • VoIP experience with design / installation / integration / troubleshooting / experience (Cisco Call Manager)
    • The ability to communicate complex solutions in a simple and straight-forward way
    • Experience with Gigabit Passive Optical Networks (GPON)
