Overview

Here at VT Group, our business units provide turnkey engineering and logistics, enterprise Information Technology, and C5ISR services worldwide, primarily in the DoD, commercial, and healthcare arenas.

 

 

VT Group is seeking Welder 3 located in San Diego, CA.

Responsibilities

Welds metal components together with brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as machine parts, plant equipment, mobile homes, motors, and generators by performing the following duties:

  • Welds metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes layout on metals.
  • Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts.
  • Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
  • Utilizes hand tools such as grinders, drills, needle guns, saws, calipers, scribes, combination squares.
  • Operate all machines in discipline.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 10-12 years of related experience. A combination of relative job experience and education well be given consideration in lieu of degree requirement.

  • Experience should include management of shipboard welders and extensive knowledge of shipyard interworking. 5-10 years of direct experience working on C5I, External Communication, IT, and/or Combat Systems desired.  

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Must pass precertification company welding test
  • Applicants must have a minimum of NDT II certification

Other:

  • Applicants must be willing to travel and have passport.
  • Applicants must understand the layout of a ship with compartment identification knowledge, ability to read and interpret structural drawings, and worked with NAVSEA Standard Items.
  • Applicants must have a basic understanding of shipboard welding concepts and procedures, basic safety requirements, and the process for conducting hot work evolutions at a government facility.
  • Applicants must be familiar with T9074-AD-GIB-010/1688, MIL-STD-1689, MIL-STD-22 and NAVSEA STANDARD ITEMS FY-18 for the requirements of welding, fabrication, and inspection onboard US NAVAL vessels.
  • Installation leadership experience on a Ship, Submarine and/or Shore installation on a Government contract.
  • Submarine welding experience desired
  • Experience with Excel, Project and Microsoft Word on a daily basis a plus for completing daily status, ordering consumables, and accessing labor requirements for tasks to include equipment.
  • Proficient in reading structural and electrical drawings.
  • Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems and OQE.
  • Understands and has experience with Shipboard/Shore Safety processes and procedures.
  • Basic understanding of contract types (CPFF, FFP, T&M etc.) regarding how they impact daily operations.
  • Previous experience ordering and tracking materials for installations.
  • Experience with Work Authorization Form (WAF) Submission and Tag Out aboard U.S. naval vessels.
