Overview

VT Group is seeking Crane Operator located in Wallops Island.

Responsibilities

  • Operate gasoline or diesel powered trucks or truck tractors with trailer or semi-trailer, basket trucks to 100 feet, front-end loaders, excavators, backhoes, trench diggers, forklifts, bulldozers, pavement cutters, motor grader, street sweeper, roller sealer and sealer equipment, bobcat, and related attachments.
  • Operate motor graders, dozers, and excavators to grade construction sites, to establish sub-grade lines, cut roadways, swales, etc.
  • Operates gasoline or diesel powered trucks or truck tractors with trailer or semi-trailer, front-end loaders, grade-all, backhoes, trench diggers, forklifts, pavement cutters, bobcat, and related attachments.
  • Maintains required equipment logs
  • Have proficient working knowledge of and be able to use different sets of controls and is able to position equipment in close or confined areas.
  • Interpret project drawings as well as surveyed/marked grade stakes and shape the terrain to fit the intent of the designer.
  • Excavates and backfills in confined areas in order that repairs may be made to subsurface utility lines.
  • Loads trucks with various types of soil and/or maintenance-related materials and delivers to work site.
  • Make vehicle configuration changes as required.
  • Perform all manufacturer-recommended operator maintenance.
  • Must comply with the latest OSHA equipment operating standards and regulations; and when excavating, must determine whether appropriate NASA/WFF, excavation permits have been approved prior and are current to the digging operation.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the various local soil types and terrain features to determine the best approach for vehicle operations as well as to determine the appropriate equipment to use for each job
  • Must be able to bring a project site to grade with little or no supervision.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to safely and properly operate boom cranes up to 200 tons capacity with a boom length to 300 feet, and be familiar with boom configurations and limitations of mechanical apparatus.
  • Determines particular equipment to be operated and positioned, and assures operating stability of equipment such as tipping movements and ground surface loading limits. Manipulates heavy, sensitive loads in physically restricted areas.
  • Must make vehicle configuration changes as required.
  • Be familiar with hand signals or radio communications from a rigger or other crane operators when working parallel or in tandem with other cranes.
  • Performs assigned work in coordination with other trades and requirements of the job.
  • Operates other equipment, such as but not limited, to tractor trailer, trencher, pavement repair equipment, roller, bobcat, backhoes, front-end loaders, excavators, tractors, motor graders, bulldozers, forklifts, basket trucks, etc.
  • Performs periodic inspections of equipment to determine excessive wear to clutches, brakes, hooks, cables, etc.
  • Knows the uses of different sets of controls and is able to position equipment in close or confined areas.
  • Must comply with the latest OSHA equipment operating standards and regulations; and when excavating, must determine whether appropriate NASA/WFF, excavation permits have been approved prior to the digging operation.
  • Must be able to operate motor graders, dozers, and excavators to gmdc construction sites, to establish sub-grade lines, to cut roadways, swales, etc.
  • Must be able to interpret project drawings as well as surveyed/marked grade stakes and shape the terrain to fit the intent of the designer.
  • Should be able to bring a project site to grade with little or no supervision.
  • Should be able to establish elevations at grade stakes and interpolate between them to within five hundredths of a foot.
  • Excavates and backfills in confined areas in order that repairs may be made to subsurface utility lines.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the various local soil types and terrain features to determine the best approach for the vehicle as well as determine the appropriate equipment to use for each job.
  • Must make vehicle configuration changes as required.
  • Must be able to perform all manufacturer-recommended operator maintenance. ' Loads trucks with various types of soil and low maintenance-related materials and delivers to work site.
