VT Group is seeking an Electronic Technician 3 located in San Diego, CA.


Comprehensive technical knowledge building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing and modifying developmental and electrical or electronic components, parts, equipment, and systems by performing the following duties:

  • May serve as a technical leader on many advanced installations. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Discusses layout and assembly procedures and problems with lead engineering technician and draws routine sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic units.
  • Oversees the assembly of experimental circuitry (breadboard) or complete prototype model.
  • Recommends changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance.
  • Oversees and may set up standard test apparatus or devises test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production model.
  • Analyzes and interprets test data.
  • Oversees and may adjusts, calibrates, aligns, and modifies circuitry and components and records effects on unit performance.
  • May write technical reports and develops charts, graphs, and schematics to describe and illustrate system's operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications, and functional limitations.
  • Checks functioning of newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions.


Education:  One of the following:

  • Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, or Information Technology
  • Class A military school in electronics or communications
  • IT specialist title in US military
  • Four (4) year electronics apprentice program
  • Two (2) year contractor apprenticeship that included at least six months of formal classroom training that addressed electrical circuit theory, electromagnetic radiation, and other disciplines related to C4ISR installations


  • Eight (8) years of practical experience of Electronics Repair, Maintenance, Installation, and Checkout
  • Six (6) years of experience with shipboard electronics installations to include:
    • reading, interpreting and working from shipboard installation drawings, technical manuals, handbooks, and technical specifications
    • electronics equipment installation including the installation of electronic equipment, ducts, cableways, fiber cables, high density cable connectors, RF cable connectors, waveguides, and antennas
  • Two (2) years of experience supervising installation teams (including subcontractors) aboard US Navy platforms
  • Must have complete understanding of shipboard installation practices, NAVSEA Standards, and RMMCO processes and reporting
  • Must understand SPAWAR Change Order Request Notifications (CORNs)
  • Knowledge of proper standards of conduct and shipboard etiquette

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Must have the following certifications:

    • Multi-pin Connector Certification
    • Fiber Optic Connector Certification
  • Should have the following certifications:

    • Cableway Certification
    • Cableway Inspector Certification
    • Shipyard Competent Person Certification
    • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
    • Man Aloft Certification (Climber Certification)


  • Must be able to travel as required.
